Bannock Republic

Ten years after the mayhem of Thunderstick, the Thunderchild cousin are reunited in Bannock Republic. Isaac is now the chief of their reserve, Thunder Cree. Jacob is a video-journalist with APTN and clinging desperately to his sobriety. He’s on his way to his home reserve when he crashes his car into Destiny Charles, a third party manager who’s been recently assigned to take over the finances of Thunder Cree. Destiny also looks exactly like Zia, Isaac’s dead wife.

Persephone Theatre and the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company co-produced the world premiere of Bannock Republic for its 2009/2010 season. It was directed by Herbie Barnes and brought back Curtis Peeteetuce and Mark Dieter to reprise their roles as Isaac and Jacob Thunderchild. PJ Prudat starred as Zia/Destiny.

Cam Fuller of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix wrote that Bannock Republic “is deep and meaningful, deadly serious and hard-hitting. At the same time, it’s uproariously funny.”

Scirocco Drama published Bannock Republic in 2011.
